ringwave 5
The new town hall at the Torenstraat has the form of a segment of a circular arc.
The open central part, where public counters are situated is on both out- and inside bordered by seven double pillars at a distance of 5 meters.
In the plan for Ringwave 5 the curve is extended into a complete circle which leaves the building, moves through the center of town and returns to the starting point.
Extending the distances between the pillars on the circles resulted in 120 points.
The plan consists of a movement of energy in sound on both the outside as well as on the inside circle, whereby the distance between points is represented by a duration of 1 minute, so that the entire movement lasts for exactly 2 hours.
In front of each of the 2 x 7 pillars a drummer is situated, carrying a snare drum at which a small digital clock and a time/place schedule have been attached.
At precisely 12 o'clock the double ring of drummers starts rolling.
After one minute the last drummer at the end of a row of 7 stops and a fresh drummer joins at the front.
The group has now progressed 5 meters on the circle.
This system continuous over the entire circle, unitl, after precisely 2 hours, both groups are back again at their starting point in front of the pillars. Then the sound stops.
after note:
The sound of rolling snare drums moved through streets, private residencies, a school, shops and a museum, in a continuous steady pace.
At places which were difficult to reach additional drummers were deployed.
The audience followed the drummers along the various locations.
