Markeren (marking)
Starting point: In the middle of the courtyard of the Prinsenhof Museum is a rectangle paved with cobblestones measuring 13 x 17 metres. I am dressed in white and am standing at one corner in such a way that the front of my body is at right angles to one of the lines. Movement: With sideways jumps – four jumps per second – I now move along a contour line to the next corner. I make my breath hiss slightly between my teeth. I breathe in for one second and then breathe out in one second. While I am jumping I count the amount of seconds that will be necessary to reach the next corner. When I get there I stand still, counting off half of the determined amount of seconds, make a quarter turn, count off the remained half of the seconds and then move along the next line, and so on. The speed of jumping remains the same. After each completed perimeter I make the distances a little shorter. The rectangle is then also smaller, the moments of activity and rest shorter. In this way I continue to reduce the size of the perimeter until, after about half an hour, I am only able to jump in circles on one spot in the middle.
