Spiral 3
In the exhibition-room of Gallery Marzee - 5x3 meters – I have drawn a circle on the floor with a diameter of 2.5 meters.
In the middle is a burning light bulb standing on the ground. On top of it is another lamp hanging on a steel cable with a weight. The lamps just touch each other and they are the only light-sources in the room.
I am dressed in black.
I attach a thin line with the length of the circle radius to the hanging armature. I now start walking on the circle, shortening the line as gradually as possible, so that the hanging lamp starts turning around the standing one. Because I start walking faster and faster, the lamp gets floating on its own weight and the movement becomes more gradual.
When I have drawn the lamp completely towards me and the speed has increased as much as possible I loose the lamp and let it go back spiralwise to the centre until it is hanging still again over the other lamp. Then I repeat the action.
